Formula: Fraction ≈ decimal approximated
Convert a decimal value to its closest simplified fraction within a specified accuracy. Ideal for translating decimal measurements, percentages, or calculator results back to fractional form.
The calculator iterates through possible denominators up to the specified maximum, finding the numerator that produces the closest approximation to the input decimal. The result is then simplified using the GCD.
0.75 with max denominator 100: result is 3/4. 0.333 with accuracy 100: result is 33/100 (closest within max denominator). With higher accuracy (1000), a better match like 333/1000 or 1/3 may appear.
Higher max denominator values find more precise fractional matches but may produce large numerators and denominators. For construction (inches), use 16 or 32. For general math, 100 works well. For high precision, use 1000 or 10000.
Since the input is a decimal with limited places, repeating decimals like 0.333... cannot be entered exactly. Enter as many decimal places as you have (0.333333) and increase the accuracy to get the best fractional approximation.
