Formula: Scaled Amount = Original Amount × (Desired Servings / Original Servings)
Scale any recipe from its original number of servings to the number you need. See the scaling ratio, percentage adjustment, and example conversions for common ingredient amounts.
Scaling Ratio = Desired Servings ÷ Original Servings. Adjustment % = (Ratio − 1) × 100. Example conversions show what the ratio does to common measures: 1 cup, 100 g, and 2 tbsp.
Scaling a 4-serving recipe to 6 servings: ratio is 1.5× (a 50% increase). If the original calls for 1 cup, use 1.5 cups. If 100 g, use 150 g. If 2 tbsp, use 3 tbsp.
Not all ingredients scale linearly. Spices, leavening agents (baking powder/soda), and salt may not double cleanly. Baked goods are particularly sensitive — consider making multiple batches rather than scaling a single batch beyond 2×.
Scaling down (e.g., 4 servings to 2) works well for soups, sauces, and most savory dishes. For baking, halving an egg is impractical — look for recipes designed for smaller batches instead.
