Exponent Calculator: Raise Any Number to a Power

Calculate powers and exponents — the base raised to any integer exponent. From simple squares and cubes to large exponentiation, this tool handles repeated multiplication instantly.

Formula

Result = base^exponent. The base can be any number (decimal, negative, fractional). The exponent must be an integer. For fractional or decimal exponents (roots), use the Root Calculator.

Worked example

2^10 = 1,024. 1.05^20 = 2.653. 3^4 = 81. (−2)^3 = −8.

Practical guidance

Compound growth and exponential functions

Exponents model population growth, compound interest, bacterial growth, radioactive decay, and technology scaling (Moore's Law). If something grows by 5% per year for 20 years, the multiplier is 1.05^20 = 2.653.

Negative bases and even/odd exponents

A negative number raised to an even exponent gives a positive result. A negative number raised to an odd exponent gives a negative result. (−2)^4 = 16, but (−2)^3 = −8. The calculator handles both correctly.
